Brown Chemistry

Brown ChemistryAs far as the latest science fiction films go, Brown Chemistry is a definite contender in the Hall of Fame. Starring Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Garrett Hedlund, and Jake Gyllenhaal, the film takes a look at a future in which man has learned to manipulate and control energy and make an atmosphere conducive to the growth of life on Earth. The biosphere plot is basically based on the premise that the Earth has built a magnetic shield to protect itself from a variety of natural disasters that may be triggered by extraterrestrial disturbances. When man learned to tap into the power of the universe and power the shield, the earth became a completely isolated planet that now rests between two suns. But since the shield has been built, man has been unable to leave the planet's confines and the shield only protects the planet from extreme weather conditions and other forces that could cause global catastrophe. The biosphere plot is based on the belief that mankind has lost control o f the planet and is not even aware of it. So, when they start ramping up a program to reverse engineer and install a system that can bring life back to the planet, an army of men goes out to stop them. The plot for the film is somewhat similar to the one in the Star Wars saga. In a similar way, the leaders of the film are set to work on making all sorts of technologies to restore life and do away with the shield to stop global disaster. But there is a twist to the story as well, that puts all of these plans in jeopardy.Director Bryan Singer went on to make 'X-Men,' 'Seventh Son,' and 'We're the Millers' before taking on the role of directing the 'X-Men' sequel and releasing 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine.' His next film, 'The Gift,' is due in theaters soon.If you haven'tyet seen 'Brown Chemistry,' you are likely familiar with the biosphere plot in this movie. Whether you have or not, it is an excellent film and a must see film. One of the biggest differences between the story in the film a nd the real world is that the United States military did not lose control of the planet and with an international crisis threatening to disrupt the overall plan. While the world outside of the planet is in chaos, the top military leadership in the United States uses their own resources to break the shield. With help from NASA and other governmental entities, the United States military cuts off all contact with the outside world in order to protect humanity. The importance of this film cannot be understated as the US military set up to protect the planet never truly succeeded in their mission, so the crew of the USS Brown Chemistry had to take matters into their own hands. They used their knowledge of the shield and their experimental designs to put a stop to an impending doom and save the day.

How to Teach Yourself a Language 5 Creative Strategies You Havent Tried Yet

How to Teach Yourself a Language 5 Creative Strategies You Havent Tried Yet How to Teach Yourself a Language: 5 Creative Strategies You Havent Tried Yet Trying to learn a new language, but finding yourself in a rut?Feeling stuck  with that new foreign book you just bought? All out of ideas for ways to expand your lingual palette?Stress no more! We here at FluentU think outside the box because we believe that some of the best ideas are the ones you havent tried.Wondering how to teach yourself a language? Its time to get creative. How to Teach Yourself a Language: 5 Creative Strategies You Havent Tried Yet1. Prioritize  One Phrase a DayBefore you treat your journey to fluency as you would your senior research report, slow it down. What I mean is: Resist the urge to cram! Cramming is not only ineffective in the long run, but its also a poor way to be using your time and energy. (This is exactly why SRS was created for effective learning with flashcards).Instead of trying to memorize the most words and phrases in short amounts of time, try the reverse. Choose one phrase a day and commit to it.Some phrases to consider:Excuse me, where ca n I find the nearest bathroom? What time do you wake up in the morning? My favorite hobbies are  writing and playing  video games.Notice how all of these phrases are jam-packed with useful words, while also being incredibly practical. After youve selected a phrase, devote an entire day to using that phrase as much as you can. Have fun and be creative when trying to implement your daily phrase. By using the phrase repeatedly and focusing your mental energy on it, your brain will have no choice but to let it stick. The next day, choose a new phrase to focus on, and repeat the process. Within a few weeks, you will have a useful portfolio of words and phrases that youll have a hard time forgetting. And if you do happen to have trouble remembering your daily phrases, stick with the same phrase for three days, or for an entire week!If youre stumped on ways to learn such phrases, give these resources a shot:Google Translate is generally a reliable go-to (but be aware the sentence structure may not be 100% accurate).Post your desired translation on an online language learning forum, like Word Reference, so that a native speaker can give you feedback on the proper translation.2. Closed Caption Your Favorite YouTube VideosClosed captioning is becoming an increasingly popular option for YouTube content creators. To make the site more appealing to various culture and demographics, YouTube is encouraging viewers to caption videos in other languages. This is a wonderful chance for the sites content to be more universal, and also a great  opportunity for you to learn new languages! If you have a favorite YouTuber who you religiously watch, go back to some of his/her videos and turn on the captions. You can do this by clicking the CC button alongside the bottom of the video. Then, click the gear icon located next to the CC button to adjust the language. While on this screen, you can also adjust the speed, allowing you to make the video slower so that you can follow along more easi ly.Try this with a video in your target language:  Listen to only the  first sentence and hit pause. From here, see if you know what  was  said, and then check by re-watching with the English captions. Continue listening and pausing the video, going sentence by sentence. You can also try to imitate a native speaker by memorizing part of the YouTube video.  This allows you to match your native language with the language spoken throughout the video. Try to pick out commonly used words or expressions. You never know what youll discover! And if you want to learn a language with videos, but are looking for more than just subtitles, head over to FluentU. FluentU is an online immersion platform that takes  real-world videosâ€"like music videos, movie trailers, news and inspiring talksâ€"and turns them into personalized language learning lessons.  You can browse videos  by difficulty (beginner to native), topic (arts and entertainment, health and lifestyle, etc.) and  format (video blog, news ,  shows, etc.).With FluentU, you learn real languagesâ€"the same way that real people speak them. FluentU has a wide variety of videos, like movie trailers, funny commercials and web series, as you can see here:FluentU App Browse ScreenFluentU has interactive captions that let you tap on any word to see an image, definition, audio and useful examples. Now native language content is within reach with interactive transcripts.Didnt catch something? Go back and listen again. Missed a word? Hover over or tap on the subtitles to instantly view definitions.FluentU Interactive TranscriptsYou can learn all the vocabulary in any video with FluentUs quiz mode. Swipe left or right to see  more examples for the word you’re learning.FluentU Has Quizzes for Every VideoAnd FluentU always keeps track of vocabulary that you’re learning. It uses that vocab to give you a 100% personalized experience by recommending videos and examples.3. Turn  Your Phone into  a Language-learning ToolAdmit it. You re already on your phone way more than you should be every day, so why not use the time on your celly to bump up your language learning jelly? Change  your phones language setting to the desired language you would like to learn. Now, the next time  you instinctively check your phone, youll have the added challenge of deciphering your way through different screens and apps. It definitely gets easier over time, which only means one thingâ€"that youre becoming more comfortable in your target language because youve learned new words. But we can take it a step up. If you have a smartphone that has a built-in operator feature (i.e. Siri), try  speaking to the robot  in your  new language. This can  be a really fun way to test  your pronunciation, and an even more fun way to befriend a robot. If youre really adventurous, try using your GPS wherever you go to hear the directions in that language. When I lived in China, being able to navigate myself around the city was crucial. Almost everyday, I found myself either asking for directions or telling a driver directions in Mandarin. By practicing with your phones built-in GPS, or even the one in your car, you can easily create a roadmap to success in your  language learning endeavors.  Thanks  technology!4. Join a Meetup  Group of Other Language LearnersAlthough it may be tempting to learn your new language solo, having a group of like-minded people to support you in your learning can be the make-or-break in your strive for fluency.Meetup.com is the worlds largest network of local groups. By becoming a member, you can easily organize a local group or find one  of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.Currently, there are over 420,000 monthly meetups occurring in 180 countries. Chances are there are many happening in or around your hometown, so give it a shot. You may be able to find a group of other passionate language learners nearby, or you can be the first to get a group started. With this group, you can share language learning resources, inspire and motivate each other, watch films in your target language, eat at ethnic restaurants where your target language is spokenâ€"and probably gain a few new friends along the way!5. Stop Trying to Motivate Yourself and Instead Just Go for ItHeres the thing: We have the concept motivation totally wrong. We tend to believe that first we have to motivate ourself in order to accomplish or do anything. Before we know it, we sit around all day trying to think of ways to motivate ourselves, and in the process we get nothing done! Its time we flip the script on how motivation really works. Rather than motivating yourself until you take action, take  action until you are motivated.  Just the act of doing  something  towards your goal  eventually fosters motivationâ€"its incredible how well it works.Imagine both motivation and a ction as representations of the wings on a bird. In order for the bird to fly, both wings must work together. When one wing flaps, the other wing flips as well. The two wings work together in order to keep the bird moving. To put this into context, rather than devoting your energy to motivating yourself to learn a new language, just dive in and get started! The motivation will eventually catch up, but only after you take those first few steps. Here are some ideas to get you started right now:Pick a daily phrase from #1 and say it 10 times todayFind a popular song in your desired language on FluentU or YouTube and listen to it 5  times in a rowSign up for polyglot Olly Richards Language Learning Foundations video course, which is designed specifically to help you get set up and started with the ins and outs of learning a new languageYou may also be interested in his Grammar Hero or Conversations courses, which are designed to help you set up workable, step-by-step systems for learning your target language.Pick up your phone and change the device languageAnd there you go! These ideas for how to teach yourself a language may sound crazy at first glance, but sometimes crazy can be exactly what we need to move forward. You have nothing to lose in giving these techniques  a shot, so good luck!Frank Macri is a Professional Life Coach who supports  those  who want to replace  their monotonous  lifestyles with an off the beaten path adventure. How to Find a Private Tutor Without Paying For it

How to Find a Private Tutor Without Paying For itWith the economy in the toilet, many parents are looking for ways to save money on tuition and it is one of the best ways to do this is to find a school that offers private tutoring. You may not have known that all private schools are required to offer this service if they want to keep their accreditation. What you don't know is that you can also qualify for this private tutor without having to pay for it.The first step in finding a private school that will give you a discount on their private tuition is to go online and search for companies that offer tutoring for K-12. You can also do an internet search for independent, private schools. Many times, these companies will give you a list of schools and will let you determine which one you like best. You will have to find a list of private schools with current accreditation.Once you have this list of accredited private schools, you can start to research them to see if they will give you a tuition discount. Usually, when you enroll in a private school, you will be required to pay their tuition or their program fee. While many schools require tuition payment, most will allow you to pay a student loan. You will need to make sure that the school is certified by the National Council for Accreditation of Educations (NCAE) or by other state and federal organizations. Since most private schools are not accredited, they must meet certain standards to keep their accreditation and you can rest assured that the school will help you get your education without any hassles.Private tutors will work with your child to teach him or her specific academic lessons and work with him or her in the areas of reading, writing, and math. They will teach your child proper behavior, social and emotional growth, and a holistic approach to learning. If you want to receive the best education, then you need to enroll your child in a private school. You can do your own research online. You can look a t individual websites to learn more about each private school. You will have to make sure that the school is accredited, if it is, and that the school will give you a tuition discount if you want to be a part of their program. The only way to know if your child needs private tutoring is to speak to your child and find out. If you know that your child has a learning disability or has an attitude problem, then it is wise to enroll him or her in a private school and have the school handle the private tuition part. After all, you will be saving money!

What is the Role of Sugars Chemistry in the Human Body?

What is the Role of Sugars Chemistry in the Human Body?Studies of the effects of carbohydrates, fats and proteins on the human body suggest that they are metabolized by the body differently. This has been the topic of discussion among nutritionists for years. The problem is that there is no precise term for these 'metabolites'.The common misconceptions about carbohydrates include that they are not digested in the body and therefore have no effect on the human body. This misconception is based on the fact that fats and proteins are broken down in the human body and they do not require digestion. Consequently, they are passed through the system unaltered. However, carbohydrates are not completely absorbed by the body. These dietary fibers are only partially absorbed. They become part of the blood stream, where the body passes them through. There are two types of carbohydrates, which the body uses, mainly carbohydrates that are quickly metabolized and carbohydrates that are slowly metabo lized.Although there are no universally accepted terms to describe carbohydrates, the terms 'soluble'insoluble' are commonly used to describe the difference between these two types of carbohydrates. Both of these carbohydrates are metabolized in the human body. The human body contains two forms of carbohydrates, simple and complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates include fructose, glucose, starches and glycogen. Soluble carbohydrates include fructose, glucose, sucrose, lactose, starch and pyruvate. All of these sugars molecules are transmembrane proteins. They require a fiber to be absorbed, which allows the glucose or fructose molecules to be digested by the cells. Both glucose and fructose can be found in fruits and vegetables. The role of the metabolism in the human body is of importance because the body does not function well without it. The human body can survive only if the human metabolism is properly functioning.

Everything to Know About the History of the Berlin Wall

Everything to Know About the History of the Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall: From the Construction to the Fall of the Berlin Wall ChaptersThe Geopolitical Divide Post-World War IIThe Iron Curtain and the Berlin WallLife Behind Each Side of the WallThe Fall of the Berlin Wall and the End of the Cold WarThe fall of Berlin wall, an event that forever marked the year 1989 - although not for the whole world -  marked the beginning of German reunification as well as the beginning of the fall of the iron curtain. While German history and German culture has been forever marked by Kingdom of Prussia, the Treaty of Versailles, Westphalia, the Holy Roman Empire, the Brandenburg gate and the Reichstag â€" there is no more defining moment in modern German history than the fall of this wall. While the fall of the Berlin wall is generally associated, in history lessons, with the Cold War â€" understanding of it cannot be done without discussing the German Democratic Republic, or GDR, East and West Germany, the Weimar Republic and the destructive German reich of the Nazis. While planning out your stay in Berlin can be as simple as finding a place to live or rent, you also might be interested in the city's history. A moment that the those living in Germany will remember well, this day marked the final end of institutional Nazism in Europe. It was accomplished by two countries who would become the competing superpowers of the world in the years to come: the United States and the USSR.Attempting to get rid of the final vestiges of Fascism, from the Reichstag building to the Berlin palace, Berlin city was divided into 4 zones occupied by the US, Great Britain, France and the USSR. The zones occupied by the first three countries formed what became known as West Berlin, while the zone occupied by the USSR is known as East Berlin. In 1946, Churchill made a speech in which he notoriously declared that an “iron curtain” had fallen over Europe, dividing the continent into two powers that divided Germany into Eastern Germany, known as the German Democratic Republic, and Western Germany, called the Federal Republic o f Germany. Looking at a map of Germany at the time, the distinctions between Southern and Northern Germany take the backseat as the population of Germany belonging to the East German government fell behind this “iron curtain.”Tensions in Berlin, which became the official German capital after 1990, were especially emblematic of the fight between Capitalist and Communist ideologies. What was once hailed as an important city for the German Reich and German national pride and culture became the centre of the first incident of the Cold War, known as the Berlin Blockade, in 1948.From 1949 to 1961, the USSR and East Germany faced a major problem: East Berliners fleeing from the DGR to the FGR, or from East to West â€" the number estimated at about 3 million German people.Find a German language course anywhere in the UK.The Iron Curtain and the Berlin WallThe beginning of the physical separation between the two German states began with the Warsaw Pact in 1955, which created a military a lliance between the states that formed part of the Soviet bloc:The USSRBulgariaHungaryEast German GDRPolandAlbaniaCzechoslovakiaYugoslaviaThe eastern bloc, placed in direct opposition to the western one, adopted a communist regime and responded as an ally to the USSR in all political and military decisions. In November of 1958, an ultimatum launched by the Soviets in question to the situation in Germany, now known as the Khrushchev ultimatum, put Berlin into a second crisis. When no agreement was reached, a division was wrought in Berlin like no in no other city in any country in Europe: the Berlin Wall.Built in 1961, the wall was meant to physically separate the territories in eastern and western Berlin. The wall lasted for longer than many anticipated: 28 years, during which the migration between the two was forbidden. It marked a time in Germany where many families were forcefully separated. While the wall symbolized a hard-line policy against migration, it also symbolized a distin ct ideological division.Whether you study in Germany, want to know more about the city, or are interested in the history of the Berlin wall, it is often said that the wall was erected in a single night. This is actually only partially true â€" in reality, only barbed wire and brick walls were mounted rapidly along the border, while the actual wall as we know it today was completed in a much longer time frame. However, by 1962, the wall was 15 kilometres long.Find German classes London on here.Life was difficult in both West Germany and East GermanyLife Behind Each Side of the WallWhile modern-day visits to Germany are now perceived to be made up entirely of German beer, the Grimm brothers, visiting famous monuments like the Cologne Cathedral or struggling to understand a language that used to has earned many prizes for the longest word â€" understanding the country’s complex history is a favourite amongst tourists.A city now known for its famous composers, powerful German companie s, and a particularly delicious jelly doughnut was actually the site of much distress and cruelty on both sides of the Berlin wall. The wall quickly became a symbol of hate and saw the largest population of defectors to leave East Germany in the first few months of its creation. Those who opposed the wall by trying to leave or by critiquing it were silenced by the GDR, being either killed or condemned to a life of prison. It is estimated that 5,000 successful passages were made into West Germany, while 80 passages involved deaths and 115 included injuries by bullets fired by the border guards. The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the End of the Cold WarFrom the 1970s and onwards, the policy put in place was called Ostpolitik. This policy allowed for a decrease in tensions and relationship between the western bloc and the Soviet bloc. It wasn’t until 1987, however, that the tide seemed to be changing, marked by Mikhail Gorbatchev’s visit to the German Democratic Republic. This visit was largely taken as a signal towards a new, more open political atmosphere. In 1989, following the advice of GDR ministers, following this type of policy and many protests from the German population in the east, the government decided to open the frontier and take down the Berlin wall. The 9th of November of that year saw the demolition of the Berlin wall, to the joy of Berliners on both sides. One interesting fact to point out actually has to do with the condition of the wall before its destruction. While the east side of the wall was, on the whole, kept pristine â€" the same could not be said of the west side of the wall. The west side was filled with graffiti tags, designs and inscriptions. While this serves to show the differing atmospheres on both sides of the wall, it also shows how heavily protected and inaccessible the east side of the wall was to its citizens. Many German people visit Berlin today to learn about their pastThe reunification of Germany was produced in 1990. While t his can sometimes seem like ancient history, it is important to remember, no matter what side your country was on, that some people are still living through the consequences of this important moment in history. While the will and spirit of unification in Germany was on of joy, it has also served as a painful reminder of one of the most difficult episodes in German history.Today, the majority of the wall has disappeared. However, there are still some remains that can be seen both in order to experience history as well as to serve as a reminder against the dangerous politics the generation before us engaged in.Today, Berlin is more than just its past â€" the modern city is home to some of the most interesting cultural and social activities in the world. The city, who was first documented in the 13th century, is now home to orchestras, universities and venues. In fact, the city is one of the world’s most important hubs for film, music and the arts. According to some sources, it is est imated that there have now been over 6,000 films shot in Berlin alone. Not only does Berlin play an important role in the creative arts, it is also one of Germany’s most important financial hubs. Looking at the economy of Berlin, it has the 4th largest GDP of any city in the world. That being said, the cost of living is relatively cheap - depending on where you're from, of course. If you're in Berlin for a short stay, you'll also be contributing to the city's economy in an unexpected way. Some economic research conducted for the year 2018 showed that tourism, specifically Berlin's nightlife, brought an estimated 1.3 billion pounds in revenue.

Learning Classical Guitar Developing Your Right Hand Technique

Learning Classical Guitar Developing Your Right Hand Technique Suzy S. Learning classical guitar requires a high level of coordination in both hands. Polish your right hand technique with these tips from guitar teacher Thomas C. Many classical guitarists run into issues when developing with right hand technique. Common issues such as insufficient accuracy, poor tone, counterproductive tension, or lack of speed may all be countered with patience and knowledge working towards a more efficient and relaxed movement. In order to fix any of the above issues, it is important to determine what technical barrier is between you and your goal. Most of these problems will be easy to fix with close attention to detail of the right hand joint movements (knuckle and middle joints), and relaxation. Positioning the Thumb For developing thumb (P) technique, it is essential that the guitarist moves from the wrist joint, or joint closest to your wrist. In doing this, you are able to get much more power and volume. The thumb should then follow through to around the middle joint of your index (I) finger. Many guitarists will make the thumb movement with only the tip joint of the thumb. By using the wrist joint, you are now able to create a much louder, fuller sound and increase speed with continuous motion. The string should come in contact with the spot directly between the flesh of your thumb and the nail to create the best sound. Positioning the Fingers The right hand fingers (IMA) should be practiced so that the tip of each respective finger follows through to the palm of your hand. Make sure that your wrist is aligned parallel with your forearm (with a slight, comfortable arch). Start by preparing I (index), M (middle), and A (ring) on the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st string of the guitar. Start with the I finger, making sure to leave the M and A fingers prepared on the 2nd and 1st strings. The I finger should meet the string, just as the thumb does, simultaneously touching the nail and flesh. Make sure that the I finger is following through to the palm and the sound is not being created by the outwards pulling of the string away from the guitar.  Your wrist should not move, as the joints of the fingers are creating the motion. Repeat the same process for the M and A fingers (with M, I and A should be prepared/when playing A, I and M are prepared. Just as with P and I, the M and A fingers should meet the string right between the nail and flesh. It is good to practice with proper follow through to develop the correct movement, but when playing a piece, especially at higher speeds, the finger will not make contact with the palm. The aim is an efficient, accurate, and relaxed motion. Remember to practice slowly â€" developing the correct motion is more important than speed when youre learning classical guitar, at least at first! Hold out one chord with your left hand and practice playing a P-I-M-A pattern with your right hand. When this becomes easy, try playing P-I-M-A-M-I as a pattern. For an example of what it looks and sounds like when youve mastered this right hand technique, check out Thomas video below: View this post on Instagram Practicing pimami arpeggios #guitar #classical #music #arpeggios A post shared by Tom Clippinger (@tclippinger) on Nov 7, 2014 at 11:30am PST Thomas C. teaches guitar, classical guitar, music theory, and audition prep in Baltimore, MD.  He is studying classical guitar performance at the Peabody Institute of the John Hopkins University, and he also plays guitar in the band Wait For It.
